To all of our FAIRtax supporters, on behalf of Americans For Fair Taxation, I want to extend best wishes for a wonderful and enjoyable Thanksgiving Holiday!
On the 20th day of October, 1864, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed that the last Thursday of November was to be a day of Thanksgiving. Here is in part the text of his proclamation:
Now, therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby appoint and set apart the last Thursday in November next as a day which I desire to be observed by all my fellow-citizens, wherever they may then be, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the Universe. And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid that on that occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the Great Disposer of Events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union, and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased Him to assign as a dwelling place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations.
All of us who support real tax reform are thankful that:
• FAIRtax has the most Congressional cosponsors it has ever had;
• A FAIRtax cosponsor is now Chairman of the Ways And Means Committee;
• We are starting to get real interest from Democrat Members of Congress;
• Mike Huckabee continues to promote the FAIRtax in his Presidential campaign;
• There is growing awareness that the present income and payroll tax system is doomed to failure because of the growing evasion in all areas of society;
• There is growing awareness and understanding that the present income and payroll tax systems, even if made simpler and “flat”, are not going to bring money and jobs back to the United States and improve our balance of trade by being border adjustable;
• There is growing awareness that any flat income tax will not stay flat for even a few years because the D.C. elite and the lobbyists will exchange money for failures which will rapidly transform a flat tax to the present income tax;
• The FAIRtax is the only real tax reform.
I leave you with a quote from Bill Gates:
You may have heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. There's another day you might want to know about: Giving Tuesday. The idea is pretty straightforward. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, shoppers take a break from their gift-buying and donate what they can to charity.
