WASHINGTON D.C. AND THE FAIRTAX®
Cindy Canevaro and I just returned from Washington, D.C. It was a very successful and exciting trip. One message came through loud and clear - our grassroots efforts are making a difference!
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), the new Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, is one of the busiest leaders in Congress. Yet he took time to meet with us and enthusiastically mentioned that he routinely sees people wearing FairTax® t-shirts and hats in Wisconsin.
Our meeting was scheduled for 10-15 minutes yet lasted nearly 25 minutes. Rep. Ryan was especially interested in hearing about the rapid increase in tax evasion and the potential impact it will have on income tax-based reform. We also discussed dynamic, or what he called “accurate,” scoring - a methodology that accurately estimates the benefits of proposed tax reform legislation, and Rep. Ryan confirmed that he is championing this critical and much needed change.
Over three jam-packed days, we met from early morning to late evening with senior Members in the House and Senate, with senior staff of key committees and with key influencers in the private sector. We were really encouraged by the eagerness that was consistently expressed about how the FairTax must not get bogged down but move forward in Congress.
We will be sharing with you more details early next week.
