WINSTON CHURCHILL AND LESSONS FOR FAIRTAX SUPPORTERS
On January 24, 1965, Winston Churchill died at the age of 90. He was in the public eye from a very young age because of his reporting from South Africa about the Boer War and being captured and then escaping his captors. It is also because the first of his 43 books was published in 1898.
During the 1930's, Churchill warned about the rise of Hitler and the threat he posed to the rest of the world. He was largely ignored and often scorned. When the 65-year-old Churchill became prime minister of England, Hitler was winning on every front. France was soon to surrender and England would face Hitler and his powerful army alone. Churchill never gave up and he made sure that England never gave up and that the rest of the world saw the danger of a Hitler-controlled world.
It was during the Blitz when Hitler tried to break the morale of England by bombing its cities, that Edward R. Murrow said in one of his radio addresses about Churchill, “Now the hour had come for him to mobilize the English language, and send it into battle, a spearhead of hope for Britain and the world.”
WHAT DO HITLER AND THE SWAMP HAVE IN COMMON?
Members of the Swamp do not kill people directly like Hitler, but they do share the same megalomaniacal condition. (A megalomaniac is someone who behaves as if they are convinced of their absolute power and greatness.) The Swamp, like Hitler, is convinced:
- Only they are capable of deciding what is best for the rest of us.
- The rest of us have to be tolerated because we are needed to carry out their plans, but they really have only contempt for us.
- It is ok for the rest of us to suffer as long as the wishes of the Swamp are accomplished.
- If any of us disagree with them, we should be suppressed as rapidly as possible by all of the force of government.
- The purpose of government is to serve them and not us.
While we are not trying to compare the replacement of the income/payroll tax system with the problems faced by Churchill in 1940, Churchill's words apply to all of us who are fighting to overcome the lies of the Swamp.
Here are some Churchill quotes:
- "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."
- "All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in single words: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope."
- "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."
- "If you're going through hell, keep going."
- "If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack."
- "Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon."
CONCLUSION
We are a group of volunteers who are treated with contempt by the Swamp, have little financial resources and refuse to kiss the robes of our betters in the Swamp. How are we going to achieve a tax reform that will deal a death blow to much of the Swamp?
We are going to do this by following Churchill's advice, "The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is."
We know that the income/payroll tax system is collapsing because of criminal evasion. We know that the Swamp is studiously ignoring this because they don't care about economics but only about protecting their control and power.
This statement came from a speech Churchill made on October 29, 1941, to the boys at Harrow School. "Never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
We can never, ever give up if we want to save our country from the Swamp. For the sake our children and grandchildren, we have to take the way we fund our government out of the hands of the Swamp and pass the FAIRTAX!
The truth is the truth. Remember, if we don't continue to tell the truth and demand a change, then this quote from George Orwell's 1984 may foretell our children's future:
“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever.”
WHAT CAN EACH OF US DO
Call up the local or D.C. offices of your House Member and two Senators and you can use the following script:
- I am sure that Representative ____ or Senator ____ is in favor of everyone obeying the income tax laws.
- After they assure you that their boss is not in favor of anyone breaking the law, ask if they are aware of the Cebula study showing $9 trillion of evaded income/payroll taxes over the next ten years.
- Since most will say they don’t believe their boss has seen the study, either drop off a copy or get an email address and send a copy to them for their boss.
- Say you are going to call back in a week and ask what the Representative or Senator is going to do to stop this evasion.
- In a week, call back and ask specifically what the Representative or Senator is going to do to enforce the law.
- They probably will say their boss believes that simplifying the income tax will handle the problem.
- Explain that when people evade income taxes, they are also evading the 15.3% payroll/Medicare tax and state income tax. So it is unlikely that they are going to pay 30% or 40% when they were paying 0% because they have already decided it is okay to cheat.
- Say that the only way to reduce evasion is to increase by tens or hundreds of thousands the number of comprehensive IRS audits done each year.
- Point out that Evaders do not self-identify by putting an “E” on their income tax return.
- 80% of the people likely to be audited are trying to comply, but they will be forced to endure these IRS audits as well.
- Ask if the Member is in favor of this?
- If they say no, then ask again how the Member proposes to stop people breaking the income tax laws.
- Then explain that the way to handle evasion without unleashing the IRS audits is the FAIRtax.
If you can see your Member or attend a town hall and ask these questions, you can be even more effective.
A CRAZY TAX CODE PROMOTES CRAZY BEHAVIOR
FAIRTAX POWER RADIO EPISODE #93
Listen to some of the crazy plans by a few state leaders on how to get around certain provisions in the new tax plan they don’t like. States like New York and California are trying to protect their high state taxes by concocting weird and probably illegal strategies to circumvent the caps on SALT deductions in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 recently passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump. It’s just insane! The FAIRtax Guys are here to snap us back to reality as only they can do by using the FAIRtax. Keep abreast of the tax code wrangling by listening weekly to FAIRtax Power Radio.
Last week we talked about Congress’ addiction to the tax code. They are hooked on the income tax and the power they wield in thrusting this byzantine system upon the citizens of our country. They are hooked on using the tax code to conduct class warfare. They are hooked on using the IRS as a weapon against their political opponents. They are hooked on taxing our hard work and productivity. They are hooked on the constant tinkering of the tax code with their daily proposals to amend it. Such is their addiction that they completely ignore the huge problem of evasion that costs every household over $5000 annually. Very simply, Congress is addicted to the income tax. The FAIRtax Guys want to use the FAIRtax to launch an intervention and break their addiction. Only the FAIRtax is strong enough to bring them back to reality.
