Dr. Tom Coburn RIP

Dr. Tom Coburn
FAIRtax Co-Sponsor

Tom Coburn, a former Member of the House of Representatives and former U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, passed away on March 28, 2020.

Senator Coburn served in the U.S. Senate from 2004 to when he resigned for health reasons in 2015.  He was a co-sponsor of The FAIRtax while in the Senate.

On Senator Coburn’s 2010 website, he said,

I support a repeal of the current code, and favor its replacement with a simpler, flatter tax treating all Americans fairly.  I am co-sponsoring The FAIRtax Act, which will do away with our complex, multi-layered tax code and replace it with a national sales tax.

This would negate the need for the massive and costly tax bureaucracy now in place.  It would also make our products more competitively priced because it will remove the high costs already embedded into our products as a result of the current tax code.

It’s clear Washington has a spending addiction rather than a revenue problem.  In fact, taxes are too high and have become a major burden for American families and businesses.

The tax code is overly complex and costly, and backed by a system assuming citizens are guilty until proven innocent.  Further, American innovators are at a competitive disadvantage now because our nation has among the highest corporate tax rates in the world.

Rather than figuring out creative ways to steal more of our hard earned money, Congress should focus on eliminating the more than $350 billion in documented waste, fraud, or abuse occurring annually within the federal government.

All of us at Americans For Fair Taxation wish to express our condolences to his Wife and Family.  He was a great man and will be greatly missed by all of us who love and cherish these United States Of America.
