Where New People Come From

When I had a law practice, I never knew where the next client would come from. It works that same way with FAIRtax supporters.

Earlier this month, Derrick Romero from heavily urban and Democratic Jersey City, New Jersey (whose skyscrapers, with Manhattan’s, frame the Hudson River) sent a message to Info@FAIRtax.Org. Team Co-Leader, Randy Fischer, read the message and saw that Derrick was interested in getting involved. Randy forwarded the inquiry to me. I invited Derrick on our monthly New Jersey conference call. Derrick dialed in and had a friend join him. This past Saturday John O’Rourke joined me for an in-person meeting with Derrick and his friends at the Brownstone Diner in Jersey City. Here is a picture:

Derrick lives in the Congressional District represented by Albio Sires, NJ-08. The others, including two who also live in Jersey City (one is a CPA), live in the Congressional District represented by Donald Payne, Jr., NJ-10.  Derrick’s new group is young and energized. We look forward to their help in passing the FAIRtax.

Derrick is not the first to come to us through info@fairtax.org. We recently had two inquiries from Iowa and one from Colorado. We do not have a formal organization in Iowa and are eager to help the two Iowans stand one up. We put them in contact with each other and with other potential supporters there. I put the inquirer from Colorado in contact with State Director John Sullivan.

There is, unfortunately, no instruction book on how to attract and keep supporters. Our approach is to set up groups and encourage the groups to confer regularly. Individuals are more motivated as members of groups than they are as lone ramblers. Local groups are better than we are at picking projects that work in their states and districts. If any group hits on a good project or idea, please let me have it to share here at Grassroots Corner. Please also share on the FAIRtaxUSA social media site.

CALL FOR PICTURES AND WRITEUPS

I DON’T WANT TO BE IN EVERY GRASSROOTS PICTURE! We need your pictures and news. If you have anything to share, please send your material to me at jim.bennett@fairtax.org, or text me at (908) 578-4975. When others see your activity, they are inspired, and the process snowballs. When the process snowballs, Congress Members and Senators and, yes, even the President start to listen.
