Chairman's Report - June 29, 2018

Next week we celebrate the time 242 years ago that the Declaration of Independence was issued. Many Americans believe that the American Revolution was a revolt supported by a large majority of people living in the colonies. This was not true. Instead of overwhelming support, many residents of the colonies were openly against the revolution. These opponents were called Loyalists or Tories.

What makes Senators and Members of Congress listen? Is it facts? Is it the logical arguments we construct from facts? In some cases, yes. Some representatives co-sponsor the FAIRtax because they think it is the right thing to do. But in most cases politicians listen to numbers. New Mexican Republican Promotes Tax Reform

Santa Fe--The much anticipated final report on New Mexico’s Tax System is in. State Senator Bill Sharer (R-Farmington) said it now gives legislators a credible model or so-called computerized “tool” to evaluate potential tax reduction scenarios. Sharer said the study researched tax numbers for the computer program that will be more broadly accepted as being credible and not created by someone with an agenda in order to keep their favored tax credit, deduction or exemption.
