MEET OUR NEW LEAD SPONSOR IN THE HOUSE

Rob Woodall decided to retire so we needed to replace him as the lead sponsor of HR 25, the FAIRtax bill. Rob worked hard to make the FAIRtax an idea that Members of Congress had to agree was a real alternative to the present income/payroll tax. Rob, all of us very much want to thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Rob recommended that we speak with Buddy Carter. We spoke with Buddy and he enthusiastically agreed to become our lead sponsor in the House.
 

Buddy asked that the following statement be included in our announcement along with his bio.

”America needs the FairTax. This became immediately evident to me when I opened my first pharmacy years ago, and that is why my first ever official act in Congress was to cosponsor the FairTax. The cost of complying with our burdensome and convoluted tax code is one of the biggest challenges for businesses of all shapes and sizes, and with each election cycle we constantly debate over who is paying their fair share of taxes. The FairTax provides a simple and elegant solution to both of these issues. No other tax plan is as simple or gives everyday Americans the ultimate freedom over their hard-earned dollars, all while encouraging growth in the American economy. Simply put, America was founded on freedom and opportunity, and the FairTax brings those foundational values to our tax code.
 
I am proud to now lead the effort for a simpler, more transparent tax code that applies to all equally, especially as we hear more and more of discussions to increase the American tax burdens.”

Congressman Earl L. “Buddy Carter”
United States Representative
First District of Georgia

Earl L. “Buddy” Carter is an experienced businessman, healthcare professional and faithful public servant. As the owner of Carter’s Pharmacy, Inc., South Georgians have trusted Buddy with their most valuable assets: their health, lives and families for more than thirty years. While running his business, he learned how to balance a budget and create jobs. He also saw firsthand the devastating impacts of government overregulation which drives his commitment to ensuring that the federal government creates policies to empower business instead of increasing burdens on America’s job creators.

A committed public servant, Buddy previously served as the Mayor of Pooler, Georgia and in the Georgia General Assembly where he used his business experience to make government more efficient and responsive to the people. Buddy is serving his fourth term in the United States House of Representatives and is a member of the Education and the Workforce Committee as well as the Committees on Homeland Security and Oversight and Government Reform. As the only pharmacist serving in Congress, Buddy is the co-chair of the Community Pharmacy Caucus and is dedicated to working towards a healthcare system that provides more choices, less costs and better services.

A lifelong resident of the First District, Buddy was born and raised in Port Wentworth, Georgia and is a proud graduate of Young Harris College and the University of Georgia where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Buddy married his college sweetheart, Amy, 36 years ago. Buddy and Amy now reside in Pooler, Georgia and have three sons, two daughters-in-law and two grandchildren.

CONCLUSION

In speaking with Buddy, one thing became obvious—he not only believes in the FAIRtax but also believes that we can get it passed. He knows that there are many obstacles, including a Democrat- controlled Congress, to getting the FAIRtax enacted but he also believes that the FAIRtax is an idea whose time has come.

All of us just need to keep pointing out the obvious—the current income/payroll tax system is no longer working for ordinary Americans and it is time to take back control of our finances.

Buddy’s attitude and enthusiasm reminds us of the Henry Ford statement:

If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.

Buddy is confident that we can do it. YOU ARE RIGHT BUDDY!

If you have friends who don’t know about the FAIRtax, send them to FAIRtax.org. Have them watch the white boards under “How It Works” and, if they agree, ask them to please join us.

Then contact your Members of Congress and the President and demand that Congress pass -the FAIRtax—the only fair tax.

Remember, if we don't continue to tell the truth and demand a change, then this quote from George Orwell's 1984 may foretell our children's future:

“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever.”

Is it hopeless?  When confronted with a seemingly impossible problem, remember the statement attributed to the author George Bernard Shaw who wrote, You see things; and you say “Why?”  But I dream things that never were; and I say “Why not?”

Isn’t it time for us to ask, “Why not?”
