Chairman’s Report - October 11, 2019

THE IMPEACHMENT TALK IS COSTING THE SWAMP MONEY

Many people disagree with President Trump’s methods and policies, but few believe that he is “beholden” to the Swamp and Ruling Class.  This is why many in the Swamp and the Ruling Class believe that the biggest threat to their control of the rest of us is President Trump and other “outsiders” that may upset the “good thing” that they have had going for many years.

Ironically, the focus of the Swamp and the Ruling Class on removing the President, or at least making him incapable of taking any action, has led to yet another missed opportunity for them to profit from the income/payroll tax system.

Since they can’t make the enormous amounts of money they made when lobbying for the 2017 tax bill every year, one of their sources of steady income are the extensions of the temporary tax breaks and credits that have been “purchased” by interest groups and inserted in the income tax code.  This group of special interest tax benefits are called “tax extenders.”

Of course, tax extenders are a way for Members of Congress to provide benefits to important constituencies in their home districts or states.

Generally, these tax extenders are in areas that specifically benefit certain groups.  In an August 29, 2019 article entitled Here’s Why Congress Should End Tax Extenders by Adam Millsap, Mr. Millsap explained some facts about tax extenders:
  •         They are tax breaks for specific goods and services that are often chosen for political reasons,
  • Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa—which is the largest corn-producing state in the country—unsurprisingly supports a biofuel producer credit that would benefit the ethanol industry and thus corn farmers.
  • Many of these tax breaks support ineffective programs and cost the rest of us.
In an October 7, 2019 article on the Motley Fool website entitled These Popular Tax Breaks Might Be Gone For Good, Dan Caplinger points out:
  • Temporary tax breaks come about because the Federal government has to account for the long-term budgetary impact of any changes to tax laws.
  • It's more expensive to pass a tax break that will extend permanently into the future than it is to have it be in effect for only a single year.
  • One bill, the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2019, remains under consideration in the House with no clearly set time frame for further deliberation.
  • A Senate bill with the similar name of the Tax Extender and Disaster Relief Act of 2019 hasn't even gotten an initial hearing, although some task forces have made recommendations after conducting closer looks at key areas.
At this point, it seems unlikely that lawmakers can agree on anything and getting any changes made that would retroactively apply to the 2018 tax year seems very unlikely.

Many of the special interests have already paid lobbyists and donated to Members of Congress to get these special benefits renewed for another year, and they are going to be upset if the people they think they have “bought” don’t deliver. These special interests may not be as willing to pay for special benefits in advance when they see that they didn’t get what they paid anything for their money.

CONCLUSION

This is another mistake by the Swamp and the Ruling Class—to let politics get in the way of satisfying their greed.  Just like the mistake they made by letting the standard deduction be doubled and thus removing many of our income tax deductions from their control, they have let down some special interests—who will have long memories.

The way that the Swamp and the Ruling Class profit from tax extenders is another reason why they so fanatically oppose the FAIRtax.  They know that all of the ways they use to control us and sell benefits are gone when the FAIRtax is passed.  Their worst nightmare is that if they try to sell a special benefit, everyone will see it.

When the FAIRtax is passed, the only tax paid will be a simple and fair tax collected when we make retail purchases of new goods and services.

This upset about and fear of the FAIRtax is understandable.  If for years you have made money off of a corrupt tax system that was hurting the rest of us, and if you were using this same corrupt system to exert control over the rest of us, you might be upset—if you had no conscience.

Of course, if the Swamp and Ruling Class really think that the rest of us are not capable of making our own decisions, then maybe they really believe that their actions are justified.

This is the same argument advanced by slaveholders and dictators.  It wasn’t true then and it isn’t true now.  To the Swamp and the Ruling Class, the FAIRtax is a radical idea—giving the people the right to determine how much tax they pay by how they spend their money.
It is time for Congress to have serious discussions about replacing the failing income/payroll tax system with the FAIRtax, the only truly FAIR TAX!

The author George Bernard Shaw said these words in a play he wrote, You see things; and you say “Why?”  But I dream things that never were; and I say “Why not?”

Isn’t it time for us to ask, “Why not?”

President Trump, “Embrace the FAIRtax, the only Fair Tax the only fair tax and the only real tax reform!  Stand up to the Swamp.  They will oppose you anyway because they see you as a threat.  What have you got to lose?”

The truth is the truth.  Remember, if we don't continue to tell the truth and demand a change, then this quote from George Orwell's 1984 may foretell our children's future:

“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—forever.”

This week's Episode #181 - "The FAIRtax Guys Use Sign Language"

This week The FAIRtax Guys speak the language of social media: memes.  Over the years of promoting The FAIRtax, Dave Armstrong & David Boone have created over 1,000 memes which have been used on various social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Parler.

Ron Maiellaro, one of The FAIRtax Guys, has created a few but not nearly as many as Dave Armstrong or David Boone.

So after an update from Congress.gov on the number of proposals to alter the tax code, The FAIRtax Guys resort to sign language via the memes.

For those of you listening to the podcast version of FAIRtax Power Radio, we strongly recommend you find some time to watch the video version.  Although The FAIRtax Guys attempt to describe each meme, remember the old saying a picture is worth a thousand words.  Do yourself a favor and watch the video version.  After all, you need to see the ostrich and the chubby baby for yourself to see how they relate to the FAIRtax.

What Can Each Of Us Do?

Call the local and DC offices of your Representative and 2 Senators.  Use the following script:

  • I am sure Representative ____ or Senator ____ is in favor of everyone obeying the income tax laws.
  • After they assure you their boss is not in favor of anyone breaking the law, ask if they are aware of the Cebula study showing $9 trillion of evaded income-payroll taxes over the next 10 years.
  • Since most will say they don’t believe their boss has seen the study, drop off a copy, email a copy or click Read Evasion Study Summary and copy/paste the link into an email.
  • Say you are going to call back in a week and ask what the Representative or Senator is going to do to stop this evasion.
  • In a week, call back and ask specifically what the Representative or Senator is going to do to enforce the law.
  • They probably will say their boss believes simplifying the income tax will handle the problem.
  • Explain, when people evade income taxes, they are also evading the 15.3% payroll/Medicare tax and state income tax.  So, it’s unlikely they are going to pay 30-40% when they were paying 0% because they have already decided it’s okay to cheat.
  • Say, the only way to reduce evasion is to increase by tens or hundreds of thousands the number of comprehensive IRS audits done each year.
  • Point out Evaders do not self-identify by putting an “E” on their income tax return.
  • 80% of the people likely to be audited are trying to comply, but they will be forced to endure these IRS audits as well.
  • Ask if the Member is in favor of this?
  • If they say no, then ask again how the Member proposes to stop people breaking the income tax laws.
  • Then explain the way to handle evasion without unleashing the IRS audits is The FAIRtax.
  • If you meet with your Representative or attend a town hall and ask these questions, you will be even more effective.
