It happens to many of us. We want to have a FAIRtax table at a fair or a market, and then we read the sponsor's fine print. The sponsor requires proof of insurance.
Two years ago, I had to turn down opportunities to exhibit The FAIRtax because we had no general liability insurance. Today things are different.
It’s something every FAIRtax Volunteer needs to know. If you’re going to be representing the FAIRtax at a fair, a festival or some other event, at no cost to you, Americans For Fair Taxation can provide insurance coverage for you if you let us know about it ahead of time.
Once again, we pay for it, and we want grassroots Volunteers around the country to use it. There is a limit on the number of events we can cover, but at this time, we aren’t even close to reaching it.
Florida FAIRtax-er, Manny Salinas needed coverage for his FAIRtax exhibit at the Orange Park, Florida, Farmers’ and Arts Market. The Market features over 100 vendors selling fresh, local produce and homemade crafts, live music, and great food, and, of course now, a FAIRtax tent and table.
Manny made the appropriate arrangements ahead of time, and we were able to provide him the insurance coverage he needed. He was poised to snag many sign-ups at the event and, hopefully, attend and snag many more, knowing he was insured. Unfortunately, bad weather forced the cancellation of the event at the last minute, but the silver lining is Manny now knows what to do again next time.
The policy limits for general liability are $1 million for each occurrence, subject to an aggregate of $2 million. In addition to straight liability insurance, our plan provides exhibitors with accident coverage. Suppose someone walking by your table slips and falls. They claim it’s your fault and threaten to sue. As an exhibitor, you can offer to pay for some doctors' bills, and your offer could head off an expensive lawsuit. If a specific situation arises, please contact me immediately, and I will reach out to our agent.
Another feature of this insurance is coverage for premises rented to you. This coverage is exceptional. In most general liability policies, there is an exclusion for property in your care, custody, or control. The limit for rented property, here, is $300,000.
The most crucial point to remember is COVERAGE IS NOT AUTOMATIC. YOU MUST ARRANGE FOR IT IN ADVANCE. If you are thinking of participating in an event, let Jim Bennett know by sending an email or connecting on his Mobile# 908-578-4975. Send Jim the "who, what, where, and when" of the event so he can pass your info to our insurance agent. AGAIN, THERE IS NO COVERAGE UNTIL JIM NOTIFIES OUR INSURANCE AGENT.
This notification requirement may seem restrictive, but the consequences of going uninsured could be disastrous.
This short article can, at best, describe in general terms some of the coverages we have. DO NOT RELY ON THIS ARTICLE FOR HOW THE COVERAGES APPLY TO ANY SPECIFIC SET OF FACTS. If you have any questions, please direct them to Jim Bennett.
If you need a CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE for an event or need to add the event’s sponsor as an additional insured, just let Jim know.
This insurance is there to help you get out and promote The FAIRtax, and it’s available at no cost to you. We encourage you to report your events in advance and be sure you’re covered!
Yours In Liberty!
