Facebook® Birthday Fundraisers

Here’s an idea to help The FAIRtax cause when your birthday rolls around:

If you spend time on Facebook, you can designate a cause to which your friends can give.  What better cause can there be than The FAIRtax?

You can’t designate Americans For Fair Taxation – FAIRtax - directly.  Although FAIRtax is non-profit, it’s not a non-profit the way Facebook wants it to be.

The FAIRtax is classified by the IRS as a “C4”, which has some flexibility for pursuits flirting with political activity.  Facebook, however, requires the non-profit organization to be classified as a “C3”, which is more charitable and educational.

There is another option.  We have a “C3” already registered with Facebook:  “FFTEA” - The Florida FairTax Educational Association.

Why should you organize a fundraiser for FFTEA if you don’t live in Florida and if you work for The FAIRtax in your home state?  The FFTEA undertakes, notably, 2 activities benefitting The FAIRtax nationwide.

FFTEA subsidizes The FAIRtax Logo Store in Deland, Florida.  The FAIRtax Logo Store supplies the nation with FAIRtax promotional gear at or below cost.  We in New Jersey have certainly benefited from The Logo Store over the years.

Also, the FFTEA sponsors The FAIRtax Guys.  Their FAIRtax Power Radio show goes out all over the country as a podcast as well as a streaming video to Facebook and YouTube.  Also they just started going out over the air at WTOB, 980 AM, 96.3 FM, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  We hope to see other over-the-air stations pick up this informative program.

There are other FAIRtax “C3’s”, notably in Tennessee and Florida (other than FFTEA), but they haven’t qualified on Facebook.  The other Florida “C3”, the Tax Leadership Council, licenses our service marks to us and could be used at a future date.

One feature of “C3’s” is contributions to them are generally tax-deductible.  Check first before deducting.  As long as we still have the income tax, and until we have The FAIRtax, tax-deductibility can help.

Setting up your birthday fundraiser on Facebook is fairly straightforward.  You will receive an invitation close to your birthday.  Just follow the prompts.

* You have to choose between yourself and a nonprofit.  Click on “Select Nonprofit”

This selection will bring you to a screen asking you to designate an organization.  This step can be challenging because you see a long list with logos which doesn’t include FFTEA.

* However, there is a box at the top where you can “Search for a nonprofit to support”.  Type in “Florida Fair” and FFTEA, Ocala, Florida, will pop up at the top

* Just follow the prompts and finish setting up your fundraiser

Seven Facebook friends of mine so far have donated $510 to my birthday fundraiser.  FFTEA can use the money and I am happy to be able to give back.

Don’t let your birthday fundraiser deter you from joining the 1040 Club (“Donate” tab on The FAIRtax web page).  If you are already a “1040” member, please keep up your membership.  The 1040 Club covers our recurring costs so we  Volunteers can continue to bring you The FAIRtax.

What are your ideas for a national or a local fundraiser?

🇺🇸  We’ve Got You Covered If You Let Us Know - If you are planning an event, we have event insurance coverage available for you.  Email me the "who-what-where-when" and I will obtain for you a COI.  Once the event is underway, it’s too late.

🇺🇸  Call For Pictures & WriteUps - When others see your activity, they are inspired, the process snowballs and Representatives, Senators and, yes, even The President start to listen to you and I.
